Blonding Expectations
At PRISM Hair in Richmond, Virginia, we pride ourselves on being clear in our expectations for blending services. While we completely understand that times are different and guests are wanting to stretch out their appointments a little longer than before, we still want to be extra informative in our blog here!
If you love an icy, all over blonde vibe, then this is the one where you need to keep up with maintenance on a more frequent basis. At minimum, you should be seeing your stylist every 12 weeks. Of course, each session doesn’t need to be a full highlight, but you should be getting a highlight at least every 12 weeks. This ensure that there is minimal dimension and grow out for that super bright look. At home maintenance is key too: minimal use of hot tools, proper shampoo and conditioner (our favorite is Davines’ Heart of Glass line!), a heat protectant, and a showerhead filter! Most natural and lived in blondes can go longer. Like between 12-20 weeks for sessions, depending on how high maintenance you’d like to be with it! Just know that, the longer you go in between blonding services, the more product and time your stylist will need for your appointments.
We love our guests to cycle through blonding like this: a full highlight once every year or year and a half with mini highlights or partials in between to maintain!
Balayage is going to be a great technique for the least amount of maintenance, just know that this will always result in a warmer finish. So, if you like your blondes the tone of Elsa, then foils it has to be!
Moral of the story is, you cannot go 8 months to a year (or longer) without a blonding service and expect a huge transformation or maintaining something bright and all over color, unless you want to spend all day in a salon and lots of $$$. The longer you go without a highlight, the more sessions it will take to get back to what you’re hoping for. We recommend picking a color that works best with your schedule, budget, and lifestyle and we, the stylists, will make sure we’re on the same page with you to provide a great service with realistic expectations!
