SUMMER HAIR CARE In richmond, Virginia!
Alright, y’all! We’ve arrived! It’s finally summer time in Richmond, Virginia! That means it’s hot, it’s humid, and we will be in a body water at any chance we can get. We love taking trips to our nearby Virginia Beach, Outer Banks, any pool, the James River: you name it, and we love it here in RVA!
This means, we gotta take extra care of our hair! We need to protect it from the chemicals, minerals, salt and whatever else in that water we wanna swim in, because… we truly do not know! This blog is dedicated to our favorite products and in salon services you can do to keep your hair healthy, shiny, and living its best life this summer!
Our favorite in salon services are either our Malibu Crystal Gel Treatment or our Swimmers Treatment.
The Crystal Gel Treatment is a deep clarifying service that removes all buildup and can help revive your hair, bring back shine, and add body! It typically takes at least an hour and a half, starting with a clarifying rinse at the shampoo bowl followed by applying the product precisely all over the hair and sitting under heat for 45 minutes, then another clarifying rinse and condition then a blowout! This is great to do as needed throughout the year or in prep for a color service. Most of the time, we as your stylists can tell if you need one and will make the recommendation for you! It can also revive your color to and brighten it a little because any buildup on the hair can cause dullness or even darken your color! Investment is $75 to add on to a service or starting at $125 on its own, and you can do this once or twice a year, but it’s definitely recommended after the summer!
The Swimmers Treatment is just as it sounds, for the swimmers, pool lovers and kiddos who are water babies in the summer. It’s a treatment that’s done at the shampoo bowl after a clarifying rinse and left on and emulsified through the hair for about 10 minutes. It drastically helps to remove chlorine in the hair and does an amazing job! $15-$25 to add on to any service or starting at $75 to do it on its own with a blow-dry!
The best products for Summer time in Richmond, Virginia are from Davines and it’s called their SU Sun Care line! They have a hair and body wash, and we swear by this product, it’s the only thing that actually gets that sunscreen residue off your body and gets your hair so fresh after the lake, pool, beach, river, etc! Use it head to toe! Safe for kids as well.
Next is their leave-in conditioner called Hair Milk. This is a leave-in conditioner for the hair that also has an SPF in it! It creates the perfect barrier for your hair to protect it from the sun, salt and pool! Our recommendation is to just use it as your sole leave-in in the summer so it’s always in your hair!
They also have a Hair Mask and Body Cream, which are amazing for those days when you’ve been out in the sun all day and your hair and body are in need of that deep moisture!
Another great tip we have is to just slather your hair in conditioner if you really want to get your head in the water, it’ll create a barrier for your hair for extra protection! Or just try to not dunk your head in if you can!
The salt, chlorine and everything else in the water we swim in can cause major dryness, brittleness and color fade. We want you to do what it takes to protect your in salon investment with us!
