Meet the Newest Addition to Our PRISM South Location: Kailen!

Hi friends I’m Kailen (she/her) and I’m here to make your hair dreams come true! I moved to RVA in 2022 and I’ve been a licensed cosmetologist for 8 years. I love finally living in a city as artsy as me. The best part of my job is being able to take an idea and transform my guests’ into their most confident self. I love doing all types of color - but my favorites are fantasy colors, balayage styles, blondes, and layered cuts. When I’m not at the salon you can find me hanging out with my animals, helping my partner with our vintage market Dead People’s Stuff, cooking, crafting, or exploring the city. I’m SO excited to join the PRISM team and make my mark in Richmond, Virginia. I can’t wait to see you in my chair!

Now that you know a little about Kailen, we went ahead and asked her some more questions about her journey in this industry and other insights!

Q: How long have you been doing hair?

Kailen: I’ve been licensed for 8 years, but I’ve been playing with hair my entire life. 

Q: Where did you start your career?

Kailen: I went to beauty school in Roanoke, and I’ve worked in Newport News for the past 8 years.

Q: What made you want to become a hairstylist? 

Kailen: I love being able to make people feel their best selves through their hair.

Q: What’s your favorite hairstyle or haircut of all time and why?

Kailen: A Bob! It’s so chic and so stylish.

Q: What’s your favorite aspect of being a hairstylist?

Kailen: My favorite part of being a hairstylist are the relationships I make with guests’ and executing their goals together. 

Q: What brought you to PRISM Hair in Richmond, Virginia?

Kailen: I wanted to be a part of a team again after working for myself for years. I also have been commuting for 2 years and I want to show Richmond, Virginia what I have to offer in this industry. 

Q: Are you working on anything exciting in 2024?

Kailen: I just want to be healthy and happy!

Q: What’s the hair tool you can’t live without?

Kailen: My round brush!

Q: What advice do you give your guests’ for their hair/hair routine?

Kailen: Make sure you aren’t overwashing your hair/washing it too frequently.

Q: What’s the best hair advice you’ve ever been given?

Kailen: Your ends need oil! That is the oldest hair on your head so it needs extra love and attention to stay healthy.
